Beautiful things with your own hands. Herbarium: design, examples, tips DIY postcard from the herbarium

Postcard herbarium of yellow leaves "Happy Teacher's Day"

We will need:

several small leaves;
designer cardboard for the base, olive color 13x18 cm;
yellow cardboard for background 12x17 cm;
thick light paper for watercolors (pastels);
figured hole punch with chamomile;
regular hole punch;
orange Distress stamp pad or watercolor pencils;
lamination bags + iron;
glue "Moment Crystal";
scissors;
stationery knife;
ruler;
embossing sticks with a round tip

1. We collect small leaves in the park for drying.

2. Iron the collected leaves through white paper (you can also use more traditional methods - in a book or using a press). If ironed through newspaper, ink marks may remain.

3. Check the condition of the leaves after ironing - they should rustle. We select leaves for lamination (this will protect them from mechanical damage).

4. Open the lamination bag and put the dried leaves into it.

5. Set the iron’s thermostat to the “Silk” position and iron everything through the paper.

6. Check the bag against the light - there should be no bubbles.

7. If they exist, like we have, we install more high heat iron and pass the tip of the iron near the edges of the leaves.

8. Look at the light again. If necessary, iron again.

9. Cut out the laminated material with nail scissors.

10. We will make a postcard in warm colors. Therefore, we take olive designer cardboard as a base, and make the background from yellow cardboard. If necessary, we tint the background with orange watercolor paint (here - Distress stamp paint), making it even warmer.

We tint thick light pastel paper with the same color and cut out “daisies” using a shaped hole punch.

11. Cut the same flowers from green paper.

12. Let’s add volume to the daisies. To do this, take an embossing stick and pass the round tip from the center to the edge of each petal. We turn the flower over and, performing circular movements, emboss its middle.

13. Turn the background sheet over to the reverse side and draw 2 parallel lines along the perimeter of the sheet with a pen (a pen with a non-writing rod), forming a double frame.

14. Place a laminated twig on the background and go over it with a stamp pad, while capturing part of the background. As a result, a kind of mask is formed under the branch from a clean background.

15. Cut out the backing for the inscription, which we write ourselves or print using a printer.

16. Cut out strips of olive paper less than a millimeter thick, which will be used as curls for our branches. And use a hole punch to make circles for the centers of paper flowers.

17. Apply the laminated material to the background with a slight shift relative to the mask.

18. Lay out flowers with curls. If the arrangement of the composition elements suits you, glue them to the background.

A DIY congratulations card can become the best gift for mother, sister and other relatives. There are countless ideas for creating it: drawing with paints, appliqué from colored paper and even embroidery. We suggest considering the option of using dried plants. Samples can be collected in advance. Spring, summer, and autumn flowers and leaves are perfect for decorating your work.
Composition No. 1 “Cornflowers”
An ensemble of blue and lilac cornflowers on a rigid base. The background is matches glued to cardboard. If desired, open with varnish. If you make a frame, you get a pretty decent picture.
Composition No. 2 “Blue Nivyanik”
The flowers are very similar to blue daisy. The petals are narrow, the leaves are larger. The background is a landscape sheet. There are rosehip branches at its corners. You can sign the card if you arrange the dried flowers a little differently.

Composition No. 3 “Sunny Flower – Corepsis”
The yellow petals are unusually delicate and translucent. It is difficult to place them correctly in a book to dry, but the result is magnificent. The background is thick green paper - associations with young shoots.

Composition No. 4 “Jasmine”
A sprig of spring fragrant flower is located on brown glossy cardboard.

Composition No. 5 “Bouquet”
A lighter version of the first postcard. You don’t need to glue matches in the evenings, you can just use a sheet of album paper.

When making applications in the “Herbarium” style, PVA glue was used. They turned out like this beautiful cards. Mom will be pleased.

Fragile dry flowers are tender and romantic. These properties can be successfully used to create vintage cards and bookmarks in the Provence style.

Herbarium collecting is a great way to spend time with children and increase their knowledge of botany. Communicating with herbs and flowers will benefit everyone. Collected plants must be dry and clean. You can dry the herbarium in a book with soft porous paper, but this is not suitable for all plants and, moreover, leaves stains. It is better to use a stack of old newspapers: everything dries better, it is more convenient to rearrange and the literature does not spoil, and if the newspapers are damp, this can be easily corrected with an iron. There is no need to dry the plants themselves with an iron: their color changes and they become very tiny.

The umbrellas of various umbrella plants, all clovers and daisies, cereals, daisies, liverwort and anemone, sleep grass, birch and aspen leaves, pansies and violets look especially good in and do not lose color when dried.

To work, you will need a ready-made herbarium, waxed (smooth drawing tracing paper or baking paper), diluted PVA glue, paper for riddles or a blank for a postcard, some colored thread and ribbons. As tools: scissors, brush, needle or sewing machine.

If you are planning to make a bookmark for a book, then glue the ribbon between two layers of paper. Otherwise, you can then punch a hole with a hole punch and stretch the tape.

Prepare a solution of PVA glue using glue and water in a ratio of 1:4. Place wax paper on the dried flowers and thoroughly moisten them with the resulting solution. Leave to dry and only then cut out a piece of the desired size and stitch it to a bookmark or postcard.

Autumn pleases us with an abundance of colors: the leaves of the trees are yellow, red, purple!
To leave memories of autumn, let's make a herbarium postcard!

We will need:
- the actual small-sized leaves of different colors (you can also use tree seeds),
- cardboard blanks for a postcard (I use cardboard from tights),
- transparent self-adhesive film (buy at office supplies),
- PVA glue, scissors, good mood :)

Collect leaves during dry weather. Take small leaves, clean and dry.

First of all, the leaves need to be dried. To do this, they are placed between sheets of paper and placed under a press for a week.
A thick book is ideal for this)))

Place the book under the press:

After a week we take out the dry leaves:

If you don't want to wait a week, you can iron the leaves with a warm iron (through a sheet of white paper so as not to ruin the iron):

Arrange dry leaves on the card according to your taste. You can attach them to the cardboard with a drop of glue:

Cut a piece of film slightly larger than the size of the card and cover the decorated card:

Press the film onto the card, smooth it out from the center to the edges. Cut off excess film:

Using the handle of scissors, get rid of the voids under the film, gluing the film to the cardboard:

The herbarium postcard is ready!
All that remains is to stick the stamp on the back side, write an autumn wish, indicate the address and send it to a friend!
