Laptop "Toshiba Satellite" (Toshiba Satellite): best models, comparison and reviews

Japanese technology is highly valued by consumers in different segments. Famous brands of this country are associated with quality, technology and ergonomics, often mastering new areas of development. This happened with the model that Toshiba released back in the mid-1980s. And it’s all the more surprising that today this manufacturer is, to put it mildly, on the sidelines of the laptop segment. However, this also applies to other Japanese brands, which were never able to withstand the onslaught of cheap offers from Acer, Lenovo and other budget manufacturers. Perhaps, the Toshiba Satellite series has left the most interesting developments of the brand, which harmoniously correspond to the requirements of modern users.

General information about the line

The family is quite heterogeneous, however, all its representatives are distinguished by a balanced combination of technical components and design. In the development of these models, newfangled form factors and experimental solutions with functionality were practically not used. But this does not mean at all that Toshiba Satellite devices are inferior to competitors in basic performance indicators. For example, latest versions look decent against the backdrop of powerful analogues with good multimedia preparation.

If we talk about the family belonging to certain niches in terms of the nature of operation, then a strict purpose is not expected. In many ways, these are universal models that perform both work and entertainment tasks equally. Yet again, latest modifications got Full HD resolution and good graphics to support modern games. At the same time, it continues to focus on the mass consumer, maintaining democratic cost indicators.

Reviews of the P50-A model

If we look at the most successful results of recent years, the P50-A model will stand out first. The owners note several advantages of this device. For example, the laptop is praised for its durable and reliable body, which is free of backlash and other assembly defects. Polished aluminum with a silver tint provides a pleasant feeling. The design of this Toshiba Satellite representative is so well executed that at first acquaintance you may get the feeling of a monolithic metal body. But the screen, according to users, is not implemented so well. In particular, the glossy display does not give everyone a positive feeling, especially considering the inexpensive TN matrix. In general, the model can claim to be the flagship in the line. This is facilitated by expensive case materials and decent ergonomics and sound.

Reviews of the Toshiba Satellite A300 model

The A300 example expresses the main concept of the series - versatility and rationality. This option is suitable for both home use and work. Laptop users speak positively about the Harman Kardon speakers, a high-quality 15.4" screen and a powerful graphics accelerator that allows you to cope with the demands of 3D games. However, you will have to forget about the above-mentioned finishing materials of the P50-A and other advantages of the case. Still, Toshiba Satellite A300 cannot be classified as a premium device. This is a practical model, so it is chosen by users who value ease of use and sufficient performance. By and large, the A300 is a classic middle-class option, which is not devoid of signature Japanese quality, but is not spoiled by luxurious design. in the form of metal inserts in the structure.

Reviews about the C50-A model

If the A300 model demonstrates a traditional example of a Toshiba laptop, then the C50-A version is rather a stylization of the corporate image. This is due to the fact that the device has incorporated almost all the required modern functions, but at the same time retained the design in the spirit of the early 2000s. As for technology, the owners note the abundance of interfaces, including HDMI, several new USB ports, Ethernet and others. The analog D-Sub connector has also been preserved, which again takes away the seemingly modern version Toshiba Satellite almost by the 90s. However, today even manufacturers of exclusive equipment do not refuse the possibility of communication via analog channels. Opinions are mixed when it comes to performance. It should be noted that the manufacturer himself positioned the model as powerful and capable of effectively coping with work functions. In practice, this is generally confirmed, but only when compared with laptops close to the budget class.

Reviews of the Toshiba Satellite S660 model

Another model in the original design of the case. True, this laptop does not promise any special design features - lovers of memorable cases will have to be content with only a textured pattern on a black surface. But practical users pay attention to other advantages of the case - the resistance of its surfaces to scratches and fingerprints. The model and connoisseurs did not disappoint high power, for which this device is responsible Intel processor and a fairly powerful video card with 8 GB of RAM. Provided in the Toshiba Satellite S660 and others modern solutions, the performance of which is highly appreciated by the owners. It refers to touchpad with multi-touch technology, numeric keypad, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules.

We continue to introduce you to the largest manufacturers laptop computers in order of their market position. The fourth issue of our Guide is dedicated to the fourth largest company in global laptop sales - Toshiba.

Toshiba Satellite

As usual, we’ll start with an analysis of the model range.

Toshiba's main line of laptops. To date, it has smoothly evolved into home multimedia solutions, although it began rather with business tools. However, in those days when the Satellite family was launched, all laptops belonged to the business class; in general, there were no others.

The name of the line is one of the most successful on the market. Perhaps even the most apt one: what word captures the essence of a portable computer better than “satellite”?

There are several series of laptops within the family:

L - budget models (the current line includes both 15.4 and 17’’ screens);

U - the most compact (nowadays with a diagonal of 13.3’’, but there was also one “twelve”);

M - medium-sized laptops (14’’, such a model is not yet available in the current line);

A - standard size models (15.4’’ in the modern version); P - the largest laptops (at - 17’’);

X - gaming models (so far there is only one, with a screen diagonal of 17’’).

Series U, M, A and P are usually issued in uniform style. The modern Satellite design differs from the previous style with a dark color scheme and a glossy mirror surface. The L Series traditionally uses the previous generation's design with some simplifications due to the reduced cost. Finally, the X-series is designed broadly in the style of the rest of the laptops in the line, but with a few additions to make it more impressive.

One of the inherent features of the Satellite line is a very wide variety of configurations within one model. For example, the same Satellite A300 has varieties with both integrated graphics and discrete graphics - both entry-level and mid-level performance. Processors can range from budget Pentium Dual-Core and low-end Core 2 Duo on the Merom core to top-end Core 2 Duo models on the Penryn core. Of course, the amount of memory and hard drive

may also vary, but these are less important differences. For the A300, soon after the official announcement, the number of configurations reached 12, and the A200 model at the time it left the market was available in as many as 20 versions! It’s not that easy to figure out, since the configurations are hidden behind a faceless number like “A300-23P,” which makes it completely impossible to understand anything. It’s good that analogues on the AMD platform are included in separate models with the suffix “D”, for example Satellite P300D. This the lineup Toshiba Satellite differs in

better side

from the same HP Pavilion.

A few typical features of modern Satellites:

The card reader and audio connectors are located on the front; remove the volume control wheel next to it;

High-quality Harman Kardon speakers are used;

Screen resolution for a diagonal of 15.4’’ and less is only 1280x800, for “semnasheki” - 1440x900; there is only one exception: the X200 model has a resolution of 1680x1050;

Near the base of the screen there is an additional touch panel with “buttons” that control multimedia functions;

Toshiba Satellite Pro

This year, Toshiba seems to have decided to tackle the “medium and small business” segment, for which purpose it revived the Satellite Pro line, which had been in a coma. A complete set of new products with screen diagonals from 13.3 to 17’’ was released at once. The models received the same body shape as the “regular” Satellite, but the colors were less flashy and more practical: light silver plus black, no gloss.

There are no other major differences - these are practically the same laptops with the same configurations. Let's say, for names of the same name Satellite models and Satellite Pro offer the same range of processors, video adapters and volumes random access memory and hard drive. Although there are still some simplifications: you won’t find either Harman Kardon speakers or a multimedia touch panel here.

It’s sad that the screens used here are exactly the same: with low resolutions and a glossy finish that is completely inappropriate for workhorses. Let's hope Toshiba was smart enough to equip the Satellite Pro with at least more capacious batteries than the home Satellites. If these “office and office workers” operate on just as little battery power, they will seriously lose to their competitors. Let's also hope that the Russian representative office will not sell these laptops at a high price - after all, their main advantage is their simplicity.

Toshiba Tecra

Toshiba's line of full-size corporate models is currently in a rather pitiful state: it consists of only two models, of which only one is actually sold. Apparently, the company simply does not have enough resources to develop this kind of laptops and compete with HP, Lenovo, Dell and Fujitsu Siemens, which are well established in this segment.

Laptops from the Tecra line have a different design from the Satellite; they are characterized by more strict shapes and body colors, as well as increased protection from external influences. The Tecra line also cannot boast of a wealth of available accessories - traditionally a strong point of corporate models. Overall not the best choice.

Toshiba Portage

A legendary family of ultraportable laptops, in which many truly revolutionary models were released at different times. Additions to the Portege line do not occur very often, and, as a rule, only two or three models are available at a time. At the moment, this is a compact convertible laptop Portege M700, with very outstanding characteristics for its class, as well as the world's lightest dual-spindle laptop Portege R500.

The latter is interesting in that it is equipped with a 12.1” screen, while all models of similar weight use 11-inch screens: the Portege R500 is slightly larger than its competitors, which made it possible to equip it with a more comfortable keyboard.

True, the lightweight design affected the strength of the case - the metal from which it is made feels too thin and flexible.

Portege laptops are quite expensive, especially in Russia - after all, here, among other things, they serve as the locomotive with which Toshiba is trying to drag its products into the premium segment. That is, high prices for Portege are set not even for the sake of profit as such, but to increase the value of the brand. What makes the purchase of these laptops not very justified: the buyer will have to pay not only for the product itself, but also for the manufacturer’s ambitions. Or, to put it simply, for the nameplate.

Toshiba Qosmio

A line of laptops with advanced AV functionality. At the moment there is only one model with a diagonal of 17’’ -. By the way, this is the only laptop in the Toshiba lineup with a FullHD display. The design is completely different from all other Toshiba lines. I must say, the Qosmio G40 really looks simply gorgeous - perhaps this is the most impressive 17-inch laptop on the market.

Toshiba Qosmio G40: a simply gorgeous laptop - price to match

It’s interesting that in Japan, where they don’t like “semnashki” in principle, a more compact F40 model with a 15.4’’ screen is sold (resolution, however, is only 1280x800). By the way, one of the configurations is equipped with a Celeron M processor: the Japanese are more rational about processor performance and understand that megahertz is not the main thing in a laptop.

STORY

The companies leading today in the IT market are mostly very young; they were founded in the second half of the 20th century. Ages of 70-80 are rare among them. Toshiba stands out against this background, because its history dates back to the 19th century: the company appeared as a result of the merger of Tanaka Seizosho and Hakunetsusha, founded in 1875 and 1890, respectively. At the turn of the century, these companies were renamed Shibaura Seisakusho and Tokyo Denki, and in 1939 they merged into Tokyo Shibaura Denki - under this name the combined company was known until 1978, after which the abbreviation Toshiba existed until then ( TO kyo SHIBA

ura) has become the official name of the company. Toshiba is a very large organization that deals not only with laptops, televisions and video equipment known to most mere mortals. In addition to consumer electronics, the company's product range includes the development and production of semiconductors, mobile storage devices (as hard drives

, and optical drives), LCD and LED displays, and so on. And if we move away from electronics altogether, Toshiba’s arsenal includes products such as high-tech ceramics and alloys, construction equipment, elevators and escalators, and even nuclear reactors or equipment for hydroelectric power plants.

Toshiba itself never tires of claiming that it was the first to develop a portable computer - in 2006, Toshiba organized a large-scale celebration of the anniversary of this device. It still depends on what can already be considered a full-fledged laptop computer and what not yet. Because the first compact, “wearable” representatives of the IBM PC platform (if we talk without reference to a PC, you can get completely confused) appeared a little earlier, in the first half of the 1980s.

But the Toshiba T1000, which saw the light of day in 1986, was much lighter (only 2.9 versus more than 10 kg) and more compact than the same Compaq Portable and Kaypro, and in addition, it could boast a built-in battery and a reasonable price, unlike the Grid Compass 1100. So that the Toshiba T1000 can be considered, if not the first laptop in general, then really the first mobile computer- absolutely right.

The T1000 was followed by an improved version of the T1200, then the TX1200 with a 286 processor, the T2200 with a 386 processor, and so on. Toshiba has been closely involved in the process of improving laptop computers, and it is absolutely impossible to imagine the history of laptops without it. Especially without the Portege line of models, which have always occupied the top of the ultraportable computer charts.

Now a few words about the current state of affairs. The Toshiba company is one of the rare cases when its position in the world ranking table practically coincides with the Russian one: the Japanese manufacturer ranks fourth in the world, and third in Russia.

This result in our market was achieved by the company over the past two years and was the result of two important facts: firstly, the company managed to create an adequate and, moreover, even attractive model range - Toshiba finally caught the desires of consumers and embodied them in hardware. Secondly, the Russian representative office of the company worked properly, establishing work with partners and logistics, as well as extorting the import of “gray” Toshiba laptops.

At the last Toshiba event held in Russia, which was dedicated to the announcement of the new Satellite, the general manager for the CIS and Baltic countries of Toshiba Europe GmbH, Igor Snytko, expressed the opinion that it was time for the company to take a more prestigious place in the Russian market. Well, let's wish Toshiba this year, if not to realize his dream, then at least to come closer to its realization. And to you, dear readers, we wish you successful and pleasant shopping in all respects, Have a good mood and productive rest - fortunately summer has finally arrived. Until the next issue!

A laptop is a very necessary and useful thing. But for someone who does not understand technology, it will be difficult to do right choice. The wide variety of laptops is confusing. Laptops Toshiba Satellite A300

The Japanese company pays close attention to design, as exemplified by the Toshiba Satellite A300 laptop. The glossy finish, which looks very impressive, cannot fail to attract the attention of buyers. Not only the display lid, but also the internal panel of the laptop, including the keyboard and touchpad, are marked with a bright shine. Although the surface is glossy, it leaves almost no marks. Above the screen is a webcam, to the left of which there is a microphone. Rubber pads that are located around the screen prevent the cover from hitting the body. The keyboard has a numeric keypad, which distinguishes the laptop from other models. The keys are large and silent. The amount of RAM is from 6 to 8 GB. The laptop's LCD screen has a diagonal of 15.6 inches and a resolution of 1366x768 pixels. It has pretty good viewing angles and excellent transfer colors. Battery this laptop rather weak. It lasts on average for 3 hours. The dimensions of the laptop will not allow you to carry it with you.

Thus, we can conclude that Toshiba has released a very stylish laptop with fairly good performance, which is suitable for both easy to use, and for games.

Working with connected devices

Work with additional devices will be provided by drivers for the Toshiba Satellite laptop. Version selection software depends on the laptop model, that is, each piece of software is developed only for one specific model. When using the driver, operating system interacts with relevant devices through a conventional interface. Drivers for Toshiba Satellite laptop can be downloaded online. After installing them, you can easily use the connected equipment.

Toshiba - large international concern, producing electrical equipment, electronics, household
devices and medical equipment. Included in the top 100 largest manufacturers in the world by
version of the Fortune 500. In Japan, at the beginning of its work, Toshiba was a pioneer in certain areas:
the first telegraph equipment, the first mechanical dolls, the first “perpetual” clocks and
electric incandescent lamps. Now Toshiba, together with Sony and Hitachi, has announced its intentions
develop screens for portable mobile devices.

The idea of releasing so-called “smart glasses” still haunts numerous large companies. Despite the fact that even Google failed to make theirs popular, other electronics manufacturers still cherish the hope that their product will “take off” and occupy its niche in the market. Marketers from the Japanese company Toshiba also thought so, but something went wrong, because the start of sales of the device was canceled literally a week before the previously scheduled date.

At the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show, which will be held in Las Vegas from January 8 to 11, 2013, the Japanese company will demonstrate its new SDHC memory cards. And what's special about them, you ask? Something sets them apart from other cards on the market today.
