iPad Activation Lock protects the device from unauthorized access in case of theft or loss. However, this useful feature in some cases can become an insurmountable obstacle for the rightful owner of the tablet. To prevent the device from remaining in a “bricked” state, you need to know how to bypass the activation lock.

How Activation Lock works

Activation Lock on iPad appeared with the release of iOS 7. The function is enabled when setting up “Find My iPhone” and allows you to lock a device linked to an Apple ID. When the lock is enabled, you will have to enter your Apple ID password every time:

turn off in settings;
exit from ;
erasing information and reactivating.

Activation Lock essentially turns the iPad into a brick. If you forget your password or don’t know it, the device is completely blocked. You won’t be able to unlock the system on an iPad, even if you reflash it twice, nothing will change. When you reactivate, the system will require your Apple ID password, and if you do not enter it, the tablet will not turn on.

Apple has made such protection to protect users' personal data from unauthorized access, but the function can be dangerous for the rightful owner. If you don't remember your password, you won't be able to sign out of iCloud, turn off Find My iPhone, or activate your device after resetting settings and content, or reflashing it.

Unblocking

How to remove the block? There are two ways:

Disable Find My iPhone in Settings.
Unlink iPad from Apple ID.

In both cases, you need to know your Apple ID password, so it's a vicious circle. You cannot remove the lock if the function is activated, and you can only disable it if you know the password. But we constantly forget passwords, what should we do if a device we honestly bought is locked? Which bypass should I use? Maybe the blockage will be removed at the service center? Let's figure out what to do to get an unlocked iPad back.

Contacting a service center or calling support will definitely not help: specialists will immediately tell you that there is no way to regain access to a locked device except to find out/remember your Apple ID password.

Bypass blocking

If you can’t remove the blocking, we’ll try to bypass it. Security Research Labs employee Ben Schlabs wrote about a 100% working method. He has been quoted countless times, confirming that the method really works. You can't call it simple, but you can try. The conditions are as follows: you do not know either the lock code or the Apple ID with the password - nothing.

The instructions may well be used by attackers, but if you know the method, you can protect yourself from them if your iPad is lost or stolen.

Using the doulCi service

If you cannot get into the system interface because you discovered the activation lock only after resetting the settings, then you will have to use another method - bypass using the doulCi service. Open the hosts file on a computer with iTunes installed. Paste one of these lines into it:

When the device tries to connect to Apple's servers to verify activation, an entry in the hosts file will redirect it to the hacker's server. On doulCi servers, the activation request will be processed, after which the block will be removed, and you will be able to go to the iOS home screen.

This method cannot be used for iPhones and iPads with a SIM card, since after this bypass they will remain with the functionality of an iPod: they can listen to music and watch videos, but the devices will not connect to the mobile network. Nothing will happen to an iPad without GSM; it will work the same as it did before the blocking.

Another disadvantage is that the owners of doulCi servers receive information about the device, including the serial number and other individual identifiers, as well as access to personal information. So before using this method, think carefully and clear your cloud storage of information that no one else should see.

How scammers work

Imagine that on VKontakte you receive a message from one of your friends of this kind: “ Max, hello! Lost my iPhone. We urgently need your help! Enter my Apple ID data (supplied) into your iPhone in Settings > iCloud and look on the map in Find iPhone where it is located».

Something like this... And you know, many fall for this scam and really lead into Settings > iCloud someone else's account! STOP! Do not do that!

The message sent may change its “appearance”, but the essence remains the same - attackers, under any pretext, ask you to enter someone else's Apple ID into your phone.

Here are a couple of comments I received the other day:

On behalf of a friend they wrote to VK supposedly to help, they had to log out of their iCloud and log in through another one. I did so, then they told me to go to find my iPhone and my phone turned off. I turned it on and it started asking me for my apple id and password. But I didn't have one. What happens after this? This bad person, while on the website icloud.com, sees that your iPhone has appeared on his devices.

After that the reptile activates Lost Mode and your phone goes into a locked state, in which it will remain until you enter the unlock code (set by the attacker).

At the same time, a message will usually appear on your iPhone screen, prompting you to contact the appropriate email address (similar to something close to Apple, for example here is one - [email protected]).

When you try to send an unlock request, the following response will automatically be sent to your e-mail:

By the way! You don’t have to try to reflash, reset settings, or even . None of these methods will help you bypass iCloud Activation Lock.

Hacking Apple ID via e-mail

There is another type of Apple ID account hijacking. As you probably remember, an Apple ID is nothing more than an e-mail address. So, if attackers guess your password and take over your email account, they can easily get to your Apple account.

To do this, they will simply reset the password for your Apple ID (as written in these instructions), and then, as in the paragraph above, they will lock your iPhone.

Did you get the moral? ... Passwords must be set to normal! Everywhere!

And yet, we have not yet solved the problem with Apple ID hacking and iPhone locking. I’ll tell you right now what to do if you find yourself in such a situation.

What to do when your Apple ID is hacked

Starting with iOS 7, Apple has introduced a new feature to the iPhone security system. iCloud Activation Lock. In order to protect the personal data of users in the event of a device theft, it is now possible to remotely block devices or delete all data on them.

Unfortunately, this iOS feature quite often turns against ordinary users. Here is a step-by-step list of actions that I would take if such a situation arose.

STEP 1 - Try to regain control of your Apple ID. This STEP can help you ONLY when, IF you yourself NOT ENTERED in iCloud Settings ANOTHER APPLE ID DATA. If you have entered it, go to STEP 2.

To regain control of your Apple ID, you need to reset your password. You can do this on the official website at: https://iforgot.apple.com. There is information about this on my website.

If you specified a backup email address when registering your Apple ID, then a password reset email will be sent to him. After recovering your Apple ID password, you can go to icloud.com and turn off Lost Mode in Find My iPhone..

If you managed to complete the steps described above, then congratulations. After you've turned off Lost Mode, your phone likely still requires a numeric password to unlock it.

At the same time, you probably cannot connect to Wi-Fi either. In this situation, there is only one way out - Restore iPhone in iTunes using DFU () mode.

STEP 2 - If the actions in the previous step did not lead to anything, then you cannot do it on your own. You will have to ask for help from the OFFICIAL APPLE SUPPORT SERVICE.

To do this, just make one phone call to the number 495 580-95-57 (Russia). If you are not in Russia, but still in the CIS, then I described in detail how you can inexpensively call the Russian support service.

ATTENTION!!! In order for an Apple support engineer to deign to help you, you will need “proof” that the phone is really yours. You won’t be able to chat him up over the phone (although there was one case)…

The real proof for him is the sales receipt from the store, which you kept all this time and did not throw away. You didn't throw it away, did you? So? ... If suddenly the check is lost or it was not there initially, go to STEP 3.

In any case, contact support and explain the situation to them. I heard about one friend of a friend who called the specified number five times and “begged with tears” to have the changed password for her Apple ID account dictated to her in a whisper. Of course it sounds fabulous, if not fantastic, but such is the fable. I didn't invent it.

STEP 3 - You can spit in my face, or kick me painfully, but what I am about to say IS the TRUTH. Only the support service can really help you in this situation, but without a sales receipt this option becomes difficult. A locked iPhone may remain locked forever.

The first step was to restore the mail and remove the filters that the scammers had installed in the mail.
