Petrovac ( Petrovac) - a small village, with a permanent population of only 1.5 thousand people, located 17 kilometers to the north. The city is rich in vegetation, olive groves grow everywhere and perennial pines stand. The sea, pine trees and the sun create a favorable climate for recreation and recreation in Petrovac. This is a favorite vacation spot for the residents of Montenegro themselves. There are always many families with children here, including those from the nearest Serbia.

The village has a solid history. The first mention of it goes back to the 3rd century, to the era of the Ancient One. There is practically no information about those times, but the date of the foundation of the village can be determined from the remains of the mosaic. In the 16th century, a powerful fortress was erected here, designed to defend against sea pirates. The name "Petrovac" was given to the village only in the 20th century, in honor of King Peter I.

There is only one beach in the resort, and not very big. Its length is about 700 meters. Petrovac is loved for its calm atmosphere and developed infrastructure. Young people can be bored here, as the resort freezes at night.

The secret of the resort's success lies in its location. Petrovac is reliably sheltered from the winds from three sides by mountains. The city stands at a small bay, where the sea warms up earlier than in other areas. Therefore, the beach season here is longer, it starts at the end of April and ends in early October. Year after year, of course, is not necessary, but it is quite possible to count on a couple of additional warm weeks compared to other resorts.

Holidays in Petrovac are intended more for couples with children, as there are plenty of entertainment for little tourists. There are few hotels in the town, but there are several shops, restaurants and bars, a clinic, a post office and a nightclub. The place is very ancient, so many people come here to admire the ancient Roman mosaics (according to legend, they were founded in the 3rd century BC). The architecture is also striking in its monumentality and beauty, the Venetian fortress "Castello" is the central building of the city, which offers a wonderful view. The resort area is surrounded by olive and coniferous trees, so the air here is considered especially useful for improving health.

Some may find it boring in Petrovac, but in fact there is something to do here. A few steps from the main beach, from the shore of a chic bay, stunning views of the rocks and grottoes open up. Immediately outside the city, a dense pine grove begins, walking in which in the summer heat will give you the opportunity to relax and enjoy a coniferous-sea cocktail.

Directly opposite the resort are two offshore islands, with a chapel on one of them. In the morning, you can hear the bell ringing, which creates a peaceful atmosphere and helps to relax.

It has everything you need for life and recreation, but compared to many other resorts, it is much calmer and more measured here.

Best time to go to Petrovac

Due to the mild climate and protection from the winds, the beach season in Petrovac is considered the longest in Montenegro. Of course, the peak months to visit are traditionally July and August. At this time, the air and water in the sea warm up to maximum levels. Thus, the average monthly air temperature in July reaches 29°C, and water - 25°C. But the heat comes to Petrovac from the first days of May, so if travelers are planning a trip to Montenegro for the May holidays, then there is no better place to find.

September is also recommended as the most comfortable month. At this time, the number of sunny days is still high and the sea is still warm. At the same time, the number of tourists on the beaches is greatly reduced, so you don’t have to worry about whether there will be a free place and whether there will be lines to your favorite cafe.

During its history, the monastery was repeatedly destroyed during military attacks, but the frescoes delight visitors to this day. There is a belief that if a nursing woman leaves an offering at the image of the Mother of God, then she will always have enough milk.

I came to see Petrovac on my own on an intercity bus from Budva on May 27, 2019. The day turned out to be rainy and gloomy, but did not spoil the impression of the city. The bus stopped at the bus station, from where I immediately went to the coast.

I know that Petrovac is one of the most popular resorts in Montenegro. This small town on the coast has a calmer and more relaxing atmosphere than the most crowded resort town. That is why Petrovac is popular among people who want to spend their holidays without nightclubs and beach parties.

In summer, there are many vacationers here, as well as on the entire coast of Montenegro, but a calmer atmosphere than in other places.takh Budva Riviera, which is known for its beaches. They are thought out to the smallest detail, they have everything you need for a comfortable stay, and the entrance to the water is absolutely safe for children, so parents can relax and bask in the sun. There are several beaches here:

Petrovac - a resort on the Adriatic Sea - is surprisingly well located. Picturesque olive groves and coniferous forests grow around the city, filling the air. fresh aroma. The bay in which Petrovac is located always provides warm and calm sea. And just seventeen kilometers from the city is Budva- the center of Montenegrin tourism with many entertainment venues. So holidays in Petrovac suitable for everyone: families with children, and pensioners, and youth.

How to get to the resort of Petrovac.

It is best to use the services of airlines and fly to Tivat or Podgorica. Then it will take about an hour to travel by bus or taxi. Petrovac is located exactly in the middle between these two airports.

The beaches of the resort of Petrovac.

Since the Mediterranean climate prevails on the Adriatic coast, bathing season in Petrovac starts already at mid May and lasts until late October. However, if you are used to a very warm sea, you should come to Montenegro no earlier than May.

Petrovac has two beaches. One of them stretched along the entire city. It is framed by the promenade with numerous shops, cafes and restaurants. The main drawback of this main beach is the presence of not only small pebbles, but also quite large stones lying right at the entrance to the water. But the civilization of the beach for tourists of different categories can be both a plus and a minus. Those who like places more secluded and picturesque, just a five to ten minute walk will find Lucice beach. Pebbles here resemble sand, so it is more comfortable to enter the water. There are only two restaurants here, however, there is parking, but there are not even residential buildings. All this gives the beach a special charm: it is good to dream in solitude or communicate with your own company, without strangers. Children will be happy to ride along a long slide, splashing into a small pool, hollowed out right in the stone. Most importantly, this entertainment is absolutely safe!

But parents should pay attention to the depth of the sea near the beaches. Don't let the little ones go too far: already in three to five meters from the shore it becomes deep enough.

Beach restaurants.

Many restaurants are concentrated in the area of the main beach, some of them have their own specifics. For example, Da Vinci restaurant, contrary to its name, offers Chinese cuisine. If you want to dance, then go to Castello bars and Terrasa located in the Venetian fortress. Going into konoba, you can treat yourself to local cuisine and taste local wine or beer.

And on the Lučice beach, even the restaurant building is subject to the spirit of beauty and romance poured here: it lurks on the slope of a cliff, half-hidden by green pine branches. The smell of pine needles, the sea and fish dishes being prepared will show you the way. There is a pizzeria and bars on Lucica. And fruits are sold everywhere.

Sights of Petrovac.

A sign that a settlement arose on this site quite early, in the 3rd century AD, is the surviving mosaics created by Roman craftsmen. The monument to the rule of the Venetians in Petrovac is fortress "Castello". It now houses a nightclub and a restaurant. And from the top terrace offers a breathtaking view of the city and the sea.

Not far from the city, in the sea, there are two islands - Katic and island holy resurrection. The church on this island is especially revered by local sailors. In the mornings and evenings, the crystal chime of bells is heard over the sea.

Active holidays in Petrovac.

Thrive in the resort different kinds recreation on the water: boating(and you can swim far enough - to the skeleton of St. Stephen), glass-bottom boat trips, boat cruises, as well as catamaran and jet skiing. On the Lucice beach water slide, with which the children ride with delight. Experienced instructors will guide you diving and admire the amazing underwater world. If you want to practice some kind of land sport, you can play tennis or ping pong.

Performances for children.

Traveling troupes of actors often come to the Palas Hotel and arrange colorful shows of various genres for children. It can be a circus, fairy tales, pantomimes. And since the performances often go without words, and the Montenegrin language is very similar to Russian, the guys will be able to understand all the twists and turns of the stories being told.

Excursion to Hradiste - the center of medieval fresco painting.

Near Petrovac is located Hradiste- a medieval monastery, famous for its frescoes. The frescoes in it were made by the 17th-century master Strahia Budimlyanin. Despite the fact that the monastery was repeatedly ruined: by the Turks in the 18th century, by the Austrians during the First World War, by the Nazis in the Second World War, the frescoes have been preserved and continue to amaze with the purity of colors, the harmony of the compositions, the spirituality of the faces. Some of them are considered miraculous. So, local residents say that if a small gift is left under the image of the Mother of God of the Breast: butter, bread, cereals, then a nursing woman will always have plenty of milk. Two paths diverge from the monastery cemetery: one will lead to the resort village of Buljarica, and the other runs far into the mountains. After visiting the ancient monastery buildings, it is so good to wander in solitude where the voices of people are not heard, but only solemn mountain peaks rise and fast rivers murmur a little audibly.

Tours to Petrovac with Flagship Travel!

Come to Petrovac and you will relax on the shores of the warm sea, breathe in the fresh air of coniferous forests, join the culture of a country that is kindred to us in spirit - Montenegro. Our staff recently inspected this resort - we will help you choose the right hotel, we will advise a reliable operator. The information will be first hand.

On the way from the town of Sveti Stefan to Petrovac, there is a small monastery complex Rezevici. It stands in a picturesque place - near Mount Voshtanice, on a wide plateau facing the sea.

This monastery got its name from the local Rezhevichi Pastrovichi tribe. According to legend, there used to be a pillar not far from the territory of the monastery, on which the locals left a vessel with wine for travelers. King Stefan Pervovenchany from the Nemanich family drank from it himself and ordered to build a church on this site. It happened at the beginning of the 13th century, the first written mention of the monastery dates back to the 15th century.

Now the monastery complex consists of two churches, monastic cells and outbuildings. Over the years, the monastery has been destroyed and looted more than once, but it suffered the most during the Second World War, when in 1941 it was ravaged and burned by Italian troops.

The oldest church in the complex, dedicated to the Ascension of the Virgin, was built in the 13th century. Wonderful frescoes painted in the 17th century have been preserved here. It is the smaller of the two monastery churches.

The church dedicated to the Holy Trinity was built here at the end of the 18th century, in 1770. It was erected on the site of an earlier church dedicated to St. Stephen. The main value of this church is the iconostasis, painted by the master Marko Gregovich from Petrovac in the 19th century. In 1839, a high bell tower was added to the church, which still exists today.

After the earthquake in 1979, the monastery complex was restored again. Now all its buildings are under the protection of the UNESCO organization as a historical and cultural heritage of the region.

Monastery Hradiste

On the top of a mountain in Buljarica, near the road to Bar, just 4 km from Petrovac, there is the monastery of Hradiste. From here you have a magnificent view of the sea and the beautiful surrounding nature. This architectural monument is known for its fresco painting, which dates back to the late Middle Ages.

The monastery of Hradiste was founded during the reign of the country by the Nemanjić dynasty, although the first mention of it dates from the first half of the 14th century. Prior to the founding of the monastery in ancient times, there was an ancient cemetery and residential buildings on this site, called “gradzhevine”, thanks to which the monastery got its name (Gradac or Gradishte).

The monastery in those days was close to the Turkish border, because of which it was surrounded by fortifications, a high tower and loopholes. Their ruins have survived to our time.

Petrovac Market

The market of the small town of Petrovac, located in the Budva Riviera, attracts tourists with its national flavor.

In the market you will find the most necessary goods: from fruits and vegetables to souvenirs made by local craftsmen. It sells the freshest products, some of which are homemade. Sellers allow buyers to try their product. Local cheese, smoked pork, wine and national grape vodka Loza are just a small list of traditional Montenegrin products.

Another interesting fact is that some sellers are dressed in national costumes. This serves as a kind of sign and definition of where the locals trade, and where the visitors. It is also worth noting that the market is open in the morning.

The Castello fortress, which has survived to this day, built in the 16th century on a coastal cliff adjacent to the city, can tell about the period of Venetian rule in Montenegro. In those ancient times, a garrison was located in it, and stocks of oil and wine were also stored. The Venetian fortress of Castello is a place where you can get acquainted with the works of ancient painting, murals, mosaics and architecture.

The fortress houses a museum displaying amazing Roman mosaics. Some of the specimens in the museum date back to the 3rd century BC. From the upper terrace of the fortress opens beautiful view on the sea, the bay and the city itself. There is also a monument to the soldiers who gave their lives in battles against the fascist aggressors. At the height of the holiday season, the restaurant and nightclub of the same name is open in the premises of the Castello fortress. Thematic “Russian parties” and other events focused on Russian-speaking Montenegrins are periodically held here.

The village of Rezhevichi

The village of Rezhevichi is a small, picturesque, quiet village, where the ancient atmosphere of a seaside town and the attractiveness of ancient sights have been preserved. It is located between the tourist centers of St. Stephen and Petrovac.

Here, literally 50 meters from the highway, is the famous Orthodox monastery complex Rezhevichi, founded in the 15th century. It consists of two churches, monastic cells and outbuildings. In a small church, you can see wonderful frescoes that have been preserved since the 17th century.

A steep descent leads from the village to the sea past houses in a typical Montenegrin style, buried in Mediterranean vegetation. It leads to the famous bay of Perajica Do, which has one of the most popular beaches in the area. There is also a rock Skachideyka, which is named in memory of the girl who jumped from it, saving her honor.

Layered rocks of Petrovac

The layered rocks of Petrovac are amazing in their beauty and natural uniqueness. The rocks are composed of layered sandstones, which gives them a truly bewitching look.

The panorama of the rocks opens from a hiking trail, approximately 3 kilometers long, passing between the villages of Rezevici and Petrovac. Where the beginning and where the end of the trail depends on where the tourists come from (from which village) - everything is arbitrary.

From the side of Rezhevichi, the beginning is in a tunnel cut in a high mountain, and from the side of Petrovac, the path passes over the most picturesque rocks along the seashore, immersed in thickets of Mediterranean pines and olives. As you approach the tunnel, the path rises higher and higher - up to 150 meters, from where you can enjoy amazing views of the rocks themselves, the sea and the fantastically clear turquoise water under the rocks...

This is one of the favorite places for walking tourists and residents of Petrovac.

Islands of Sveta-Nedelya and Katic

The islands of Sveta Nedelya and Katic are a great place for a quiet and secluded holiday.

These islands are a natural landmark of Montenegro. They are located at a distance of one kilometer from the coastline of Petrovac, not far from each other. The location is interesting in that one island almost covers the other when viewed from the shore.

On the islands you can rent boats, boats and catamarans.

According to legend, once during a strong storm a ship was wrecked here, and only a few sailors made it to the island of Sveta-Nedelya by swimming. In memory of this, some time later, the survivors built a small church on the very top of the island. Now this church serves as a talisman for sailors.
