Hello, friends! Today we will talk to you about how to add watermarks to photos (images) in WordPress. Before we start the lesson, let me first remind you why do we need watermarks? Online.

Firstly, water marks- one of the most popular technologies copyright protection on multimedia files. Secondly, watermarking is great for protect images from copying and their further unauthorized use.

I think you will agree that few people would want to display on their website images with someone else’s logo or a link to another site :)

How to watermark images (photos) in WordPress

We will add watermarks to images using the Easy Watermark plugin.

1. Install and activate the Easy Watermark plugin.

2. After installing and activating the plugin, go to Settings -> Easy Watermark.

3. Settings plugins are divided into 3 tabs: General, Image, Text. Let's talk in more detail about the most important settings for each of these tabs.

General settings

This tab contains general plugin settings. I don’t see any point in talking about all the settings of this tab, since the plugin is almost completely Russified. I will only write about what I I recommend you change.

  • Check the box "Backup". After enabling this function, all originals of uploaded images(without watermarks) will be saved in a separate folder, and they can be restore. A very useful thing.
  • IN "Image Sizes" I recommend leaving only "Fullsize". This means that the watermarks will be displayed only on the original image(full size), and not on thumbnails, etc. This way, watermarks will not be constantly visible in front of your eyes, and the large image size will be protected.

Image

On this tab you can do watermark from image. To do this, click the button “Select/upload image”, then configure its location (if necessary).

Important! If you decide to use images for watermark, indicate in general settings “Watermark Type” -> “Image”.

Text

For adding text watermark go to the tab "Text" and specify the desired text for the digital signature.

On the same tab, indicate text alignment(by clicking on the rectangle in the image), text offset(if it doesn’t fit or you want to move it), font, color and text size. You can also change text slant and him transparency.

As you can see, there is absolutely nothing complicated about creating watermarks. The plugin is easy to use and intuitive.

This plugin also works great with online store WooCommerce. Enabling watermarks in your store is easy! To do this, on the tab "Are common", in the settings block "Post Types" check the box "Goods".

Important! The WooCommerce plugin must be activated, otherwise this item simply will not appear in the settings.

Restoration and mass application of watermarks

You can restore the original images (if saving them is enabled in the settings) as well as mass-apply watermarks to all previously downloaded images by going to Media files -> Easy Watermark.

"Start"- Apply watermarks to all images.

"Restore"— restore original images that will not have a watermark.

Result

This is the text watermark obtained from the example in this lesson.

As always, I want to remind you that if you have any questions or difficulties, feel free to write in the comments.

First of all, let's figure out what a watermark means. Thinking logically, we can come to the conclusion that a watermark is a transparent or translucent image.

By image we can mean:

  • Picture;
  • Logo;
  • Test inscription;
  • Any character.

Based on these concepts, today we will create our own watermark.

How to make a watermark in Photoshop, methods

Watermark by embossing

Now I’ll show you what kind of watermark you can create using embossing. Follow all the steps described above until you open the Blending Options window.

Just instead of shadow, open the embossing tab.

I set the following values:

Basically, I left almost everything by default, I only replaced the style by selecting embossing and removed the global illumination. However, I remind you that you can try to set other values, perhaps the effect will be better. Next, I also reduced the transparency of the fill to zero and clicked OK.

This is the result I got on a white background:

And it will look like this in color:

As you can see, due to the lighting from above, the watermark has become more visible against a dark background; the letters seem to be squeezed out of the image.

Saving the watermark

As you can imagine, creating a watermark is only half the battle. Now you need to properly save it for later use.

Instructions for saving:

  1. Click the layers tab at the top;
  2. Go down to the word - rasterize;
  3. Rasterize text and rasterize layer style;
  4. Save the document in PNG format;
  5. Next, you can save the logo as a brush. Open the tab - editing - define brush - save;

Now, you can make a fill pattern. You've probably seen more than once how repeating watermarks are located diagonally in a picture.

Making this effect is quite simple:

  1. Open the tab - image - canvas size;
  2. Specify the height of the canvas equal to the width. That is, your document should become a square;
  3. Go to the menu, at the top - editing - transform - rotate;
  4. Expand the logo at an angle of 45 degrees, that is, diagonally;
  5. Open again - Edit - Define Pattern - Save Logo as Pattern.

Applying a logo to a picture

Now we have three options for applying the logo to the picture.

iPhone and iPad handle many tasks much easier and faster than a computer. For example, with installing watermarks on photographs. In this tutorial, we talked about how to put watermarks on images when iPhone Help and iPad for free and without restrictions.

Step 1. Download free application eZy Watermark lite. It has in-app purchases, but the functionality you need to watermark images is available at no additional cost. Alternatively, you can use the app iWatermark .

Step 2: Click Single Image or Multiple Images depending on whether you need to put a watermark on one photo or several.

Step 3: Select the photo or photos you want to add a watermark to.

Step 4. Specify the orientation of the images to be processed.

Step 5. A screen will open with the created watermark templates. Since the templates have not yet been created, click " + » → Library and select a photo against which the template will be created. The next time you process images, you can immediately select the previously created watermark template.

Step 6: Create a watermark. The application allows you to specify many different parameters, including color, transparency, font, etc.

Step 7: On the template selection screen, click the check mark in the top right corner. After processing the images, save them to the gallery by clicking " + ».

Ready! The images you specified are saved in the application " Photo"and are available for subsequent downloading. Note that no compression occurs when saving, and this is perhaps the main thing if you add watermarks to your photos.

What's happened Watermark, I think everyone knows. This is a mark on the photo that indicates the author of the photo. I'm not talking about now Digital Watermark, which is cleverly embedded in the photo, smeared across the entire surface, but about the signature or sign in the picture.

You need to understand that most of these signs are easily removed in Adobe Photoshop . But they are also placed, as a rule, so that the one who kept the photograph does not forget where he got it from. Those. more for your viewers than for you.
There are also “watermarks” that are almost impossible to remove. Decide for yourself whether to bet or not.

"Watermarks" can be placed in Adobe Photoshop.

There you need to prepare a pattern (Pattern) in a separate window on a transparent background.

For me it is optimal 508x288 for a picture with a width of 1280px.

Go to Edit/Define Pattern and assign a name to your “watermark”.

Go back to the photo in another Photoshop window and create an empty layer on top of the photo.

Select our newly created sample and click OK. It should look something like this.

In principle, the photo is protected well. But black lettering on top of black objects in the photo doesn't look very good. Then we go to Blending Options in the Layers window.

Select the Stroke option there and set its parameters: color (I set it to white), stroke thickness (size) and opacity.

It turns out like this.

And it’s not for nothing that we placed our watermarks on a separate layer. Now we can adjust their transparency with the layer transparency at any time.

For these actions it makes sense to write Action(macro, a set of commands executed automatically) and then execute one button at a time.

If you want a more convenient solution (after all, Adobe Photoshop is not very fast program), then comes to the rescue AnyPic Watermark.
I've tried a bunch of programs for installing watermarks and this one is the most convenient and fastest.

For Windows XP it is called as I wrote above, and if you have a newer OS (for example, Windows 7), That old version Although the program will be installed, it will not work. You should install it new version PearlMountain Photo Watermark.

The interface is not overloaded, there is Watermark text and graphic. Quickly processes a stack of photos.
There are several templates for Watermark.

And the third option is installation Watermark directly when uploading a photo to the site.
I use WordPress and there are several paid and free plugins that add watermarks.

Plugins for installation Watermark on the system WordPress can be divided into 2 types:

Adding marks directly to the photo
- displaying Watermark over the photo (the photo remains clean on the server)

I tried the second option because... he's more interesting.

Personally, this paid plugin did not work for me. But the money was not returned, citing the fact that my hosting provider was to blame for not allowing me to complete some functions. And the hosting provider said that the plugin was just buggy. After analyzing the situation, I am inclined to believe that the hosting provider is right.

Sometimes you won’t be able to find original photos without watermarks. But it turned out that, firstly, such plugins are very dependent on the hosting on which your site is located, and, secondly, if the site crashes, all your photos suddenly become freely available without any Watermark. Although I have to admit, they look nice. But is this really the point?
Large sites, such as Shutterstock, have their own secure servers and their own plugins Watermark, so they don't have similar problems.

Thus, I settled on the first option, where Watermark. This is done not very beautifully, but reliably, by the program Watermark Reloaded.

The main thing is not to overdo it. Remember that it only makes sense to truly protect large and valuable images. It is enough to equip small previews with an inscription in the corner.

Effects for watermarks

Shadow and background

Use shadows and backgrounds to avoid brand illegibility in low-contrast images. Translucent background and shadow will create the necessary contrast around the brand.

Fill mode

This function repeats the watermark on the photo until the latter is completely filled. Enable this feature on the personalization screen. There you can also change the space between individual stamps.

Vertical and rotated watermarks

Rotate your watermark. Sometimes a rotated stamp is less noticeable and distracts from the photo than a straight one. A watermark rotated at an angle less than 90 degrees looks better when filling in a photo.
