How to insert a frame in Photoshop cs5. How to easily make a frame in Photoshop around a photo or insert a ready-made one. We do the framing ourselves

Before asking the question: “How to do this in Photoshop?”, sometimes it doesn’t hurt to get acquainted with the basic concepts of this program and, at least, the application tools.

I was asked a question how to insert your photo into a frame. I am posting detailed instructions.

1. First you need a frame template (card, etc.). This lesson used a children's frame, which can be downloaded from this link (2646×1795 pxls).

2. Templates are most often downloaded from PNG format, which have transparent areas for inserting your own pictures. In the folder, such files look graphic like an icon, the appearance of which depends on the installed main graphics program on the computer.

3. Launch the Photoshop application. To open a file, press Ctrl+O or in the main menu “File” → “Open”

Optional: on the “Open” tab, select “File Type”. In our case - “PNG (*.PNG; *PNS)”.

Now the Photoshop window looks something like this:

4. Then open our photo (it is most likely saved in *JPEG format).

5. To drag our photo onto the image with a frame, select the “Move” tool from the tools menu or simply press “V”.

Using the left mouse button, drag our photo onto the frame image. Or press the key combinations: Ctrl+A (select all), Ctrl+C (copy). Then go to the tab with the frame and press Ctrl+V (paste).

6. Using the left mouse button in the layers menu, move the layer with our photo below the layer with the frame.

7. It is advisable that the images be of similar sizes (I took a much smaller photo). To adjust the dimensions, use “Free Transform” in the main menu “Editing” → “Free Transform” or simply by pressing the key combination Ctrl+T.

Resize the photo by holding the corner of the bounding rectangle that appears with the left mouse button. For proportional transformation when resizing, hold down the Shift key.

With the left mouse button you can move the image (our photo) to the most suitable position.
After the location for the photo has been found, press Enter or the “Confirm transformations” icon in the top menu in the form of a “checkmark”.

In this article you will get acquainted with the tool that is used to crop images - Frame. The tool has a number of interesting features that will make this process more creative and creative. You can also easily learn how to perform seemingly complex photo manipulations.

What is framing

To make it clear what framing is, I’ll give an example: let’s say our idea is to cut out a comic book character and make him straight. Literally 10 seconds and this is the result:

As a rule, we need framing in the following cases:

  • Qualitative improvement of frame composition. Let's say you took a photo with a person in full height, but you can crop the frame so that it is waist-length or just a portrait.
  • Trimming unnecessary details from a photo. Let's say you need to cut out an airplane from a photo to use in a collage. To do this, you need to remove the excess background (there are many ways to do this, for example, or). But why bother with the whole image - it’s very inconvenient. It’s easier to cut off all the excess around the plane and only then start removing the background. There is less work.
  • Fit a photo to a specific size.

Options panel

Unlike other Photoshop tools, this one is double. That is, when you have selected a tool, but have not done anything yet, Photoshop offers the following group of options:

When the frame is drawn, the panel will display completely different options:

Read about why all these parameters are needed below in this article.

How to use the Frame tool

Open any photo, select Frame from the toolbar (C key), and then drag the mouse pointer diagonally to create a frame around parts of the image. Here's what you'll see:

To complete cropping, press the Enter key (or the button with a check mark on the options bar). If you change your mind about cropping, press the Esc key (or a button with the image of a crossed out circle).

If you are dissatisfied with the result, then you can. Read the article for all the ways you can do this.

A few useful secrets that will come in handy when creating this frame

  • If you hold down the Shift key on your keyboard, you will create an even square.
  • If you hold down the Alt key on your keyboard, the frame will expand symmetrically relative to its center.
  • If you hold down the Shift+Alt key on your keyboard, you will get a symmetrically expanding square.
  • Once the frame is created, it can be moved freely. To do this, click the left mouse button anywhere inside it and move the mouse to the side.
  • If you press the arrow keys on the keyboard (right, left, up, down), the frame will move in the corresponding direction by 1 pixel.
  • If you hold down the Shift key on the keyboard and press the arrows on the keyboard, the frame will move in the corresponding direction by 10 pixels.
  • You can create and move a cropping frame at the same time. To do this, while creating boundaries, press and hold the Spacebar.

What is Screen

Note that the outer portion beyond the borders is darkened. This way Photoshop tells you more clearly what will be cut off in the end. This dark part is called Screen.

If you don’t like it or it bothers you, you can turn off this screen. To do this, uncheck the box in the options bar:

Parameter Screen can be customized to your taste. To do this, there are two more settings next to this option in the options bar. Color— opens a palette in which you can specify absolutely any color (the default is black); Opacity— sets the screen transparency level on a 100 percent scale (the default is 75% screen opacity).

Removing and hiding the screen

So, Screen is the area that will be cut off when cropping. But Photoshop offers two options

  • Removal- this is an irreversible, complete cutting off of the excess part of the image
  • Concealment- Photoshop will hide the cropped area. You won't see it, but it is there and you can return it back at any time. It seems to be outside the boundaries of the document and as soon as you increase its size, the hidden part of the photo will become visible again. For example, when you decide to re-draw a cropping frame and if you drag a corner and enlarge the borders of the frame so that it extends beyond the image, Photoshop will return the hidden part of the image to this area.

The default mode is Removal. To change to Concealment you need to check the appropriate box.

Note that in my example these options are grayed out, meaning they cannot be clicked. Many people have this question: What is this and how can I make the clipping buttons active?

The problem is that pho new layer with photo blocked. This is indicated to us by a small lock icon. How to unlock this layer - .

Rotate and resize the frame. Leveling the horizon

Pay attention to the corner markers. If you move the mouse pointer to them, it will change to a semicircular arrow. This means that the frame can be rotated clockwise or counterclockwise.

Also, if you drag these corner handles, you can change the size of the borders.

But there is an important feature here. Just because you made a frame at an angle does not mean that once you confirm the framing you will end up with an angle portion of the image. Photoshop ALWAYS displays the document on directly. Therefore, the image will be automatically rotated.

This technique can be used, for example, when you need to straighten a fallen horizon in a photograph. However, to avoid white areas remaining in the corners, you will have to trim the image a little from the edges.

Rule of thirds or golden ratio

There are many rules for frame composition. One of the most popular is the rule of thirds (also called the golden ratio; you should have heard this phrase in school math lessons). The essence of the rule is that a photograph can be divided into a grid like this:

In this case, the main subject/subjects must be at the intersection with one or more points in the center of the grid.

If you notice an error in the text, select it and press Ctrl + Enter. Thank you!

Press the key combination Ctrl+A, the entire image will be selected, then go to the main menu tab Selection --> Transform the selected area (Select-->Transform Selection). A transformation frame appears around the selection. Next first Hold down the Shift+Alt keys, move the mouse cursor to the corner of the frame and drag it inside the photo:

Press Enter to apply the transformation. The selection border has shrunk in proportion to the size of the photo, but the side distance appears to be greater than the distance from the edge of the frame to the top to the bottom. Let's fix this.
Again, hold down Shift+Alt and drag outward the marker on the side:

Press Enter. As a result, visually the distance from the selection frame to the edges of the photo should be approximately equal.

Click on the quick mask launch button and we get the following view:

The area in the document that is blocked for changes is marked in red. But for the frame we need exactly this one, locked on at the moment area, so the mask must be inverted by pressing Ctrl+I. This is what the mask looks like now:

The document is now ready to apply the filter from the Brush Strokes gallery. Go to the Filter tab --> Filter Gallery, open the "Brush Strokes" section, where we select "Sprayed Strokes"? We apply the parameters indicated in the figure; for photographs of other sizes, the values may differ:

This is what the document looks like now:

Disable the quick mask by clicking on the button in the toolbar or pressing the Q key. The mask has turned into a selection:

Copy the selection to a new layer by pressing Ctrl+J. Externally, the document has not changed, but if we look at the layers panel, we will see a new layer with a frame:

In the working document window, the layer with the frame is invisible, because blends into the background. I added a Gradient Overlay and Drop Shadow layer style to the layer. You can see the layer style options in PSD file, which you can download from the links at the bottom of the page:

Actually, the photo frame is ready.

To complete the composition, I applied an adjustment layer to the main image.
Color Lookup, introduced in Photoshop CS6, also reduced saturation using a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. You can also view the correction parameters in the PSD file, which you can download from the links at the bottom of the page.

Here's what the finished result looks like:

This article will tell you how to use the Paint program and how you can insert a photo into a frame using this program?

This program is usually included in Windows image 7 or more new developments of this popular OS. But the paint program is included in the standard set Windows programs, is not suitable for this operation.

Of course, you can quickly take a photo with a frame and even insert an inscription. But this is more suitable for novice users.

For more advanced ones, it is better to use other programs. To work with frames and photos you need to either download and install on your computer paint program.net.

The difference between the programs is small, but, as a rule, they have very few functions. With this program you can open a photo of a downloaded frame, select the desired area and cut it out using the scissors tool.

Then copy the desired photo from your computer and paste it onto the cut-out section of the frame using the “paste from clipboard” function.

This is often difficult to do for beginners, since standard program you can insert text on a photo, do a little retouching, change the size of photos and nothing more.

Although if you suffer for a long time, whatever happens. In such a program there are no layers, but in a similar program paint.net there are layers and for this reason it is much more convenient to work with photographs.

Step one - download frames for paint

So, to insert a photo into a frame, you need to find this very frame on the Internet. Let's open any browser and in the search bar and write, download frames for paint.

Many sites will open where you can download frames on any topic. Next, download the frame you need to your computer. The frame must be in PNG format.

Why this format? It’s just that images in this format do not contain a background, or rather there is a background, but it is transparent. Or take a photo from your computer and carry out the necessary manipulations with it.

In paint.net, as well as in the standard Paint program, you can upload a photo. Then select an area in the form of a square, oval or free form and delete the selected area.

Step two - open a new file in the program

Once you have stocked up on the frames you need, open the paint program. In the upper left corner of the program we find the inscription “file”, click on the word file and find in the drop-down window “open new file or folder."

Click and it will open in front of you standard window download, where you need to find the downloaded frame, select it and at the very bottom of the download window, click on the “open” button. After these simple steps, the frame you selected will appear in the program.

Step three - import a photo

In the program we find the inscription “layers”, click and find the “import from file” tab. Find your photo and open the desired photo. It will open on top of the frame, the next task is to place the photo behind the frame.

To do this, you need to click on the “layers” button in the program; in the window that opens, we find the image of an arrow pointing down. Click on this arrow, and your photo will be outside the frame.

Now you need to place the photo outside the frame as you need it. Although your photo is in the background, its outlines are outlined with dotted lines.

Step four - manipulation of the photo and frame

When you hover your mouse over any corner of your photo, you will see a small image of a hand. Next, hold down Shift on the keyboard and simultaneously press left button mice. With the buttons pressed, you begin to resize your photo.

Such manipulations are necessary so that it does not lose its proportions. After resizing, release the Shift button on the keyboard and, holding down the left mouse button, move the photo to the location you need.

Step five - saving the photo in a frame

After you have combined the frame with the photo, you need to merge the layers. The easiest way is to click on the “save as” function; after clicking on this inscription, a window will appear where you will be asked to combine the layers.

It is recommended to save the resulting photo with the JPG or JPEG extension. Such extensions are optimal for saving photos, since if you save a photo with a different extension, you may not be able to open it on your computer.

To do this you will have to install additional programs With the required extension. If you don't know what will happen to your operating system After installing such files, it is better not to take risks.

If suddenly the photo does not want to move, this means that you have not activated the photo moving function. This is very easy to fix. You need to find the “tools” section on the left side of the program and click on the arrow symbol with a cross.

Your image can then be moved in any direction. After the desired alignment, save the resulting photo to your computer. And we use the image at our discretion.
